Masculine cards

I don't know about you, but I struggle making cards for men.  Here are some great examples. Susan adams made the cards with the soho paper. Paula Wright made the balloon card. The Goose card was made by Sharon Skelton. I think the key to a good man card are the colors. It doesn't hurt to simplify them too.

Piece of Cake

Funny, these cards were made by 2 different people. Great minds think alike. Daune Cotter made the card with the yellow polka dots and Shelly Shoultes made the other. Both great color combinations.

Over the top cards

Anything embossed and cut out is over the top for me. Really either of those alone is a lot for me. The layers in that dahlia are embossed and cut out. Dahlia card by Eva Davolos. Soda Shop by Carolyn Souhrada. Flowers by Donna Rolston and the bathtub card is by Janiel Hurd.

Woodsy cards

How 'bout you make some woodsy cards today! These ones are so simple. I love how the wood grain stands out. Looks like the colors of choice are Crumb Cake and Early Espresso. Susan Adams made the fish card and Jamie Albanese made the bird card.

Freakin' Love You card

This is our version of the card Shelly showed us at convention. We used the peekaboo frames die to cut the frame. Fold the door of the frame in half.  Then cut a 4-1/4 x 2 piece of cardstock in the same color, trimmed at one end to look like a tag and punch a hole.  The other end is folded 1/4 inch then glued to the door.  Now wrap a piece of washi tape to cover and add more strength. On this card, I just glued the tips of the wings of the chevron piece where the door bends so it would move easily.

Zoo Babies- Elephants

A little bit of texture goes a long way.  These cards would be great with out it, but the more texture the better, I say. The stacked animals was made by Raedean Shibata and the gray elephant card was made by Susie Reno.

Rev up the fun! motorcycle cards

I love the movement of the motor cycle on card Shelley Shoultes made. I plan on recreating that card exactly. It's amazing the different looks you can get from the same sets.  That's why we like stamps so much. So many possiblities!

Simply Pressed Clay

Have you tried the Simply Pressed Clay yet? It was actually pretty fun.  I kinda felt like a kid again. The clay matches perfectly with the cantalope cardstock. After it dried, I sponged some crumb cake on it. One trick I learned...when you add ink to color it, it needs to dry for a little bit before you put it in the mold. It comes out easier that way. Just make little balls to fit in the molds and let them sit for about 15 min before you press them in the molds. Then pop them right out and let them sit for an hour or so.

You know what makes me sooooo happy...when a punch and a stamp go together.  It just makes me giddy inside. I love to stack and layer, but please don't make me cut something out.  I know, I know, sometime times you have to, but I love it when I don't! Amy Combs and Glenda Travelstead made these cards.

Washi Tape ideas- Epic Day!

Still struggling with how to use your washi tape? Here are lots of ideas.  I think what I like about washi tape is that it just a little bit can add so much.  Sometimes you just need one more little element, washi tape is quick and doesn't add any bulk. And it doesn't have to be neat! Some of these cards were made by Angi Holt, Denise Sullivan, Karen Duke.

Timeless Talk- 96 cards out of 1 pkg of DSP!

This is the other card we made at our Convention Connection.  Their are two great things about this card.  The versitiliy of this card is great.  You could stamp just about any image and add any color.  Plus 95 cards! Great use of paper. When you cut your pack of DSP (Designer Series Paper) cut 4 of the darker sheets in 2x3 inch pieces, then cut the remaining 8 sheets in 3x4 inch pieces. Think how easy it would be with Christmas cards!

Swallowtail

This can be a hard stamp to use, but I think these guys did it beautifully. Embossing powder can really make your image stand out. Remember, a great way to use your large background stamps, is to turn them over and place your paper on top, then apply pressure. Sharon Hutchens and Lea Christensen made one of these cards.

Expressions Thinlits cards

These Thinlits dies work great with our foil and glitter paper. I have to say I was a little worried that these would be hard to use. If your paper is too thin, there is a good chance it will rip coming out.  A paper piercing tool or stylus are very helpful in getting them out. Notice how pretty the silver snowflakes turned out when we put them in an embossing folder. Jill Olsen gave us the red merry and the thankful cards. Diane Oliphant made the poinsettia card.

Washi Tape with reverse punch

Here's a great way to use washi tape. I love the idea of using the negative image from the punch in front of all that color. We got these cards at convention.  The Christmas one Shelly Shoultes made in our room after we were inspired by the other two cards. Jill Olsen made the bottom card, wish I could give credit to who ever made the other one!

Ink Embossing folder technique

Here are some examples of inking the embossing folder. You could get a similar look by just sponging after you emboss with the folder, the difference is...this technique gets the indented part inked.  We love different ways to use our tools.

The birthday and the dahlia cards were made by Susan Adams

Ink the side you want to use. If you are using the new foam pads and you want a darker image, press the pad onto the embossing folder.  If you want it lighter, rub the pad on the folder.
Then just place your cardstock in the folder.
Hold it tight together as you move it to the Big Shot so it doesn't slide around.
Run it through as you usually would.
I inked both sides so you could see the difference.
This is the side I would use. It just depends on the look you are going for.
